forgive me if this has been dealt with but i've kinda been watching this forum since it came out and haevnt seen it mentioned. anyone know if preorders (or in this case, the prerelease package) will get people in game a day early? (as seems to be the norm so far...did it with prophecies and factions

i haven't seen that on a list of contents for the prerelease but wondering if anyone else has

For Factions and prophecies there was always mention of a "headstart event". I'm looking at the preorder box now and theres no such mention of such event. So I'm assuming no.

I just checked the factions preorder box and it said preorder owners get a 1 day headstart. Rechecked Nightfall box, again, no such words

Althought there hasn't been any official statements of a headstart for pre order customers, I believe there will be such an event.
Anet states that the game will be released on the 27th of october. But on the PC Gamer Issue with the GW:N article there was a statement i believe (could have read it somewhere else but it is from a major publication online or on paper) of guild wars nightfall going live on the 26th. If so then this could only mean it will start a day early for one reason

The PC gamer also gave a completely incorrect date for the PvE preview. I wouldn't put much faith in that personally...

PC Gamer gave the correct date for the preview event.

However, as far as I recall, it did not give a date for the release.

Remember all the crap people were giving Anet about the Faction "headstart" last year? I told people then, watch, they won't even do this for Nightfall because of this.

Looks like I was right...

12:01am Oct 27 is when the severs for nightfall open. This time around they are not doing a days head start.

But Gaile did say that you might be able to get the game from stores a day or so early, and to ask your local software retailer. If you get the game early, and put the code in, you can access Nightfall a little earlier than someone buying the 27th

I have also heard they'll be selling in the Guild Wars Online Store as soon as it goes live, I am hoping this is true so I can get in on the late night action.

She's also the one who said no head start will be done this time around. The idea behind it is that if you want to play at 12:01am on the 27th then you'll buy it on the online store.

Well, where Gaile mentioned it she said if you could secure your copy from the store a day early, then you'd be able to get on at 12:01 as well. However, stores can be finicky about selling software before it's "release date"

But as far as I know Gamestop and the like get their shipments on tuesday, so it wouldn't hurt to check with your software retailer and see if they will let you get a boxed copy the 26th.

I don't think it's some sort of Anet/NCsoft conspiracy to get people to buy online though, heh...

There is a chance you can get the Boxed game on the 26th or earlier, BUT, you won't be able to play the game until 12:01PDT on the 27th. Thats when the server content will go live. Until then, entering your key will not have any effect.

No Gamestop or EB I've ever bought from has been cool enough to let that happen. Mainly because they're full of ignorance. (see: Factions Collectors Edition and the way they handled that.)

Doubtful, the shipping the 26th is when it also gets shipped to the stores. Look at pretty much any game you can preorder. They say it will ship on a Tuesday; however, you normally can't buy them instore until Wednesday.

i think the preorder gives an extra character slot this time? so i think a one day headstart would be a real bonus then?

Yes it is a possibility that you can get the Full version of Nightfall a day or two early before Oct 27 but it really depends on the retailers. But you will have to wait till Oct 27 to play Nightfall the actual time of course depends on the time zone.

Correct the pre-release pack gives you the bonus character slot. There is no 24 hours head start.

Just noting, "Ships" Oct 26 is different than "available on the shelf". The distributor (NCSoft?) will ship out to your brick&mortar on that day, and hopefully you will be able to pick it up on within 48 hours.

Look, many Gamestops get their new games delivered tuesdays, and the 26th is a thursday, by the time they take it out of the back and sell it they'll often (but not always) have had it awhile.

I know what you mean about the release dates, on HOMM5 I had to wait until the day after the "ships on" date on the website

For Civ4 I was in EB picking up the last copy the "ships on" date. It depends not just on the title but your local software retailer.

Just to confirm, there is no head start for Nightfall. The servers will be opened to everyone at the same time worldwide, regardless of whether you have a Pre-Release or not. The Nightfall pre-release offers good value in the character slot.

Really good news is that earlier this morning it was once again confirmed that we are not expecting any delays and everything is going really well for having boxes on shelves on the 27th. Look forward to seeing you all swarm online
